History
OYNA translates to ‘reflection’ in Uzbek. We handcraft adras chapans that are a reflection of Uzbekistan’s ancient craftsmanship and its modern culture. Our mission is to give new life to centuries-old traditions by creating products that connect the hero with history, the master with the world, the person with his roots. We preserve the intricacies of craftsmanship for the future, making it part of contemporary fashion. We help customers stand out, give special meaning to what they wear, and feel a sense of cultural belonging while making unique and meaningful choices.
OYNA is not just a business, but a reflection of the personal values and vision of the founder – Said.
“I was inspired to create this brand by two dear people in my life, and one great love of country.
I am neither a designer, nor an experienced fashion professional, nor a buyer-seller.
I am just Uzbek entrepreneur and fan of handcrafted items
In Oyna we work directly from 3rd up to 7th generation artisans and craftsmen, and create jobs and opportunities for them to continue their business through the ages.
Personally, this brand is a tribute to my roots, and a bow to the greatness of my sunny homeland.
Homeland, which is now booming like a mountain stream.
Homeland where beauty and aesthetics are as colourful as the palette of fruit in September at the bazaar.
A place where every guest will be welcome and served fresh crispy scones from the oven and a bowl of tea.
Homeland where knowledge and crafts are still carefully handed down from generation to generation by craftsmen.
Homeland where the greatest minds of mankind (Avicenna, Al-Khwarizmi, Beruni, Tamerlane and many others) were born and made discoveries.
And I’d like as many people as possible to experience it, through the warm embrace of the chapan, and get in touch with its distinctive beauty and culture.”
When you purchase an OYNA chapan, you touch history manifesting itself in modernity.
OYNA. Handcrafted in Uzbekistan. Inspired by roots.

About craft uniqueness
OYNA is a tribute to the hands of craftsmen who create each piece with love, attention to detail and a deep understanding of craftsmanship. Each chapan is not just a piece of clothing, but the result of painstaking work, application of age-old knowledge and high craftsmanship. In the world of mass production, we remain faithful to traditional craftsmanship, preserving the individuality of each piece and emphasizing the value of manual labour.
There is a legend about the origin of adras – the fabric from which chapans are sewn – and its unique pattern. One day an artist was sitting by a river looking for inspiration and saw the reflection of the sky and clouds in the river. He was amazed by the shimmering multi-coloured ripples and the way the clouds changed shape due to the current. The artist went straight to the weavers and repeated the pattern to them.
The process of making cloth is labour-intensive and complex. The strands of cloth are dyed long before the artisan sits at the loom. Before dyeing, the artisan ties each strand to protect the areas that will not be dyed in a particular colour. The strands are tied into bundles and dipped into the dye. The strands remain white in the areas where there has been a tie. When the dyeing of the yarns is complete, they are stretched on a loom and the adras is woven by hand.
